Medicare Savings Programs

Medicare Savings Programs offer assistance from the state level to help you pay for Medicare premiums, and depending on your level of qualification, they may also help with deductibles, co-payments and coinsurance. The 3 programs that cover the monthly Medicare Part B premiums of $144.60 include QMB, SLMB and QI.

Income and Resource Limits as of January 2020

QMB Program
(Qualified Medicare Beneficiary)
Covers Part A premium (if applicable), Part B premium, deductibles, coinsurance, and copayments.
  • $1,084 income per month for an individual
  • $1,457 income per month for a married couple
  • Resource limit of $7,860 for an individual and $11,800 for a married couple
SLMB Program
(Specified Low-Income Medicare Beneficiary)
Covers Part B premium
  • $1,296 income per month for an individual
  • $1,744 income per month for a married couple
  • Resource limit of $7,860 for an individual and $11,800 for a married couple
QI Program
(Qualifying Individual)
Covers Part B premium
  • $1,456 income per month for an individual
  • $1,960 income per month for a married couple
  • Resource limit of $7,860 for an individual and $11,800 for a married couple
